RLM Underground was established in 2016 and specializes in underground telecom construction projects throughout the Midwest. RLM has rapidly grown at staggering rates, leading to the expansion of its construction and operating capabilities into a full-turnkey telecommunications contractor. Over the years, RLM has expanded its operating region, opening offices in Central Kentucky and Central Illinois while focusing on smaller Telco providers throughout those regions.

Position Overview:
The Fleet & Safety Manager is a critical leadership role accountable for ensuring the safety, compliance, and operational readiness of RLM’s nationwide vehicle and equipment fleet. This individual will develop and implement safety programs, oversee DOT compliance, manage preventive maintenance schedules, and work cross-functionally with project teams to foster a culture of accountability and safety excellence.

This is not a logistics role. The shipping and routing of freight and or vehicle routes is not relevant to this position.

This individual will handle all aspects of our company and partner crew's vehicles and other equipment (including acquiring & maintaining trucks, trailers, directional drills, etc). Familiarity with Telecom construction equipment is very beneficial. CDL required with a tank endorsement recommended. Must have a valid DOT medical card. This is a full-time, onsite opportunity in Kansas City, KS, 66103 (no remote or hybrid schedule available).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day management of the company fleet across the United States, including trucks, trailers, and specialized telecom equipment
  • Establish a GPS-based oversight framework to enhance visibility into fleet utilization, track safety indicators, and support performance improvement initiatives
  • Lead safety training programs and enforce compliance with OSHA, DOT, and state-specific regulations
  • Conduct incident investigations and develop corrective action plans
  • Manage vehicle registration, inspections, GPS tracking systems, and preventative maintenance schedules
  • Collaborate with Construction Managers and partner crews to ensure they are equipped safely and legally
  • Collaborate with HR to maintain driver qualification files and ensure proper licensing, certifications, and training
  • Act as liaison with regulatory agencies during audits or inspections

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in fleet management (non-shipping/routing) or construction safety, preferably in the telecom or utility sectors
  • Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, OSHA standards, and fleet operations best practices
  • Experience with Motiv and or Samsara
  • Proficiency with fleet tracking systems, maintenance software, and safety reporting tools
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and incident resolution skills

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Logistics, or related field preferred (relevant experience will be considered)

Preferred Certifications:

  • OSHA 30
  • NATMI (CDS, CSS)
  • CDL or familiarity with commercial vehicle operations
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Foundational awareness of towable assets such as cable plows, trenchers, and reel trailers in the telecom industry
